"When I read through the bios of the Charger Pride Scholarship recipients, I am deeply touched by their resilient life stories and the commitment to their education and life goals. I am excited, as a donor, to play a small part in making their college dreams come true. I can’t think of a better investment!"

- Chere Gibbs, Memorial Class of '73

Funding the Dream

Adjusting for inflation, the cost of college tuition since the mid-1970s has tripled at private universities—and it has quadrupled at public universities. Room and board have also more than doubled over the same period.

How do families pay for that? In many cases, by going into debt. Student loan debt in the United States has surpassed $1.7 trillion. (That is almost twice the amount of credit card debt in the U.S.!) According to the U.S. Department of Education, the average student loan debt for a college graduate in 2015 was about $37,850.

The need to assist students trying to afford post-secondary is real. And we can help. Our philosophy is this: If a lot of caring people give a little, it adds up to a lot.

A Better Tomorrow

Educated people have many advantages over those who do not have a degree or career training. Some of those advantages are probably obvious—they are going to earn more money over a lifetime, they will have more job opportunities, they will be better equipped to change jobs or to move elsewhere for a better job. Partly because they earn more money, their family lives tend to be more stable, and they are also healthier.

Educated people also make positive contributions to their community. They are more likely to volunteer, they vote at a higher rate, and they give more money to local and national organizations.

We are all better off if we can help young people pursue post-secondary education either by earning a college degree or pursuing career-training.

Chargers Helping Chargers

Your donations make this Foundation possible.  We are so grateful for your generosity.

In April 2024, we launched a new fundraising campaign called Chargers Helping Chargers.  Supporters can choose between various levels of five-year commitments to the foundation, ranging from $100/year to $500/year. Having a base of support over a period of time is so important for an organization like ours.  Knowing we can count on future contributions allows us to maximize the amount we can give every year in scholarships.  When you make a five-year pledge, you truly become a champion for these students. Download the pledge card here and mail it to us at PO Box 1345 or email us your completed card (chargerpridefoundation@gmail.com)

Other Ways to Support

Every single dollar makes a difference!

As always, we still welcome any contributions to the Foundation, even if they are not multi-year commitments.

Please keep our foundation in mind for your Planned Giving. This might include those alumni who wish to include charitable giving in their estate plan and for those who reach the age where they are eligible to give directly from their retirement assets without tax consequences. Please check with both your legal and tax advisor when investigating planned giving.

Are you interested in getting more involved in the Foundation?  Do you have time you can volunteer to help us, or even just have ideas you think might benefit Charger Pride?

We’d love to hear from you!
